Every person is on a journey through this life; searching for something; reaching a crossroads where choices are made. These choices shape our lives each day. One person must choose between love and money. Another must choose between saving face and taking responsibility. Another between taking time for herself or giving time to others. Crossroads Bible Church is filled with people on this journey. We gather to worship God our Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. We desperately need to come together to know we are not alone on this journey of following Jesus. We sing together, we pray, we learn from the Word of God. Eventually we leave the buildings where we’ve gathered. Because Crossroads is not the destination. It is where we meet fellow travelers and get directions and spiritual fuel for our journey. We gather at Crossroads and then we go. We go to our classrooms, offices, front porches, and other intersections of life. We try to glorify God by being fully alive, reflecting His love in the meals we share, in our conversations, in how we spend our time and money. But before anything else, we go to God in prayer, because we want to better know He who is passionate about knowing us. We prayerfully undertake the massive task of loving God first and loving others next, and trying to figure out what that means for each of us. We open the door because He’s knocking. And we listen. And we tell stories to those who are curious, about how God’s son Jesus and a small group of fishermen changed the course of human history. That gives us hope, for in following Him, we invariably fail. God’s grace allows us to be real about our failures; God’s love refuses to let us go. We tell others about that, too, and try to show them that there’s amazing fullness in a life spent following Jesus. And we cling to the assurance that this journey of following Jesus is not a lonely one; we who meet at Crossroads and are sent from there, who are on this journey with each other, recognize that God is our guide. He knows the way, and simply asks us to trust Him to lead us. Crossroads is not our final destination; it never was! |
